The Crying Game [The Crying Game Part 1]

Pairing: HunHan/SeHan
Rating: R/NC-17
Length: 4/4
Genre: Smut, emotional effedupness.
Summary: Inspired by the movie of the same name.
WARNING: Includes gender-bending/transsexualism

The universe had a way of righting wrongs, of renewing balance.

Karma, some people call it.

Sehun knew this and though he tried to move on, tried to ignore the feeling that it was nipping at his heels, deep down, he had accepted that it was inevitable. Just like the family he’d once held dear, the walls were beginning to crumble around him once again, threatening the new life he’d built.

Guilt had become his best friend, ever-present, especially whenever he was with Lulu, which was always. He couldn’t look at her face and not see the smiling person she’d once been, the face of the girl in the photograph. She was calmer lately, less emotional and temperamental. He did everything he possibly could to make her happy and she was definitely more mellow and upbeat now than she had been when they’d met so he assumed that meant that he was succeeding thus far.

His guilt made him paranoid, however, and he’d become surprisingly clingy. Before Lulu’s revelation, he’d only gone to work with her at nights but since then, since he’d started feeling like the walls were closing in on him, he’d started picking her up from school as well. Every day he would be at the gate like clockwork. He even tagged along with her and her friends when they went shopping on several occasions. Lulu wasn’t jealous anymore and her friends were nice girls, like he’d predicted. He actually enjoyed their company. Like her, there was an innocence about them that he admired, craved even. He’d been steeped in darkness for so long that being with them made him feel renewed somehow.

It couldn’t last, though. He should’ve known that.

It all started one night. He was at the club, trading barbs with Andy while he waited for Lulu to finish her set.

Her family had become his. He spent so much time there that he was on a first-name business with all of the security and staff. His previous beef with Andy was long forgotten, though neither one was willing to be openly nice to the other. Picking on each other was simply too much fun.

“You have got to be kidding,” Sehun was saying. “Miss October is way, way, way hotter than Miss January could ever hope to be.”

“Are you blind?” Andy retorted. “I know you’re stupid but I didn’t think there was something wrong with your vision as well.”

“I may be blind but at least I see well enough to know that neither of those ladies comes close to my Lulu,” Sehun boasted.

Andy grinned, glancing over Sehun’s shoulder. “What she sees in you I will never understand.”

“What who sees in who?” Lulu asked, coming to stand beside Sehun.

Sehun turned to her, smiling as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her in for a kiss. He kissed her extra hard and long, rubbing it in Andy’s face.

When they finally separated, he said, “Andy’s just bemoaning the fact that I have you and he’s still single. Take pity on him.”

Lulu looked over at Andy, smiling gently. “You’ll find someone soon, trust me. You’re too great of a guy to stay single for long.”

Andy slid Lulu’s customary drink in front of her. “Thanks, hun. But don’t forget, if you ever realize that this chump isn’t good enough for you, I’ll be right here waiting.” He shot Sehun a wolfish grin.

Sehun growled softly.

Smacking him lightly on the arm, Lulu picked up her drink and swallowed the contents in one fell swoop.

“I’m going to change. You two behave.” She kissed Sehun lightly on the cheek before extricating herself from his hold.

Sehun sighed as he watched her go, eyes glued to her gently swaying hips. He really was ridiculously enamored with her derriere. It gave him ideas of what he wanted to do to her when they got home but he knew that she was tired. She’d had a long day in school and still insisted on going to work. Sleep was what she really needed. He could keep his lust at bay for a couple of days. Or at least until the morning. An ice-cold shower should do the trick.

Lulu returned five minutes later and after a little more ribbing with Andy, they said their goodbyes. They were on their way out the door when two men entering brought Sehun to a dead stop.

Sehun’s eyes flit from one face to the other, his mind recoiling from reality, begging him to wake up from what was surely a dream.

“Kris,” he responded softly, swallowing thickly.

It was no dream. He supposed that if he had to run into anyone from the organization, Kris and Tao were the safest.

“How’ve you been?” Kris asked, casting a curious glance at Lulu who Sehun hadn’t realized he was holding tightly to his side.

Sehun cleared his throat, straightening as he did so and moving Lulu behind him, though he didn’t release her.

“I’m good. How’s…everyone?”

Kris raised a brow and Sehun could see that his reaction had been a mistake. “They’re fine.”

Sehun nodded nervously. “Well…I was just heading out. Goodnight.”

Kris and Tao stepped aside and Sehun quickly shot past them, keeping Lulu on the opposite side so that they couldn’t get a good look at her.

“Who was that?” Lulu asked, trying to keep up with Sehun’s ridiculous speed.

“No one,” he muttered.

“Seh…” She broke off when Sehun increased his speed, forcing her to pay attention to where she stepped as he dragged her along.

When they were finally ensconced in the car, she tried again.

“Who were they? Friends of yours?”

Sehun didn’t answer at first. He was too busy trying to figure out what business the organization could possibly have at the lounge. Or perhaps Kris and Tao were just having a casual night. Their relationship had always been suspicious to him but there’d never been any confirmation as to whether there was something between them or not. It wasn’t his business so he’d never made any real attempt to find out. The lounge was as far removed from The Dragon’s Den as they could get and perhaps that was its appeal. The lounge also catered to those with diverse tastes so if their relationship was indeed what it was suspected to be, that might also be their reason for patronizing it.

Shaking himself out of his thoughts, he glanced over at Lulu. “What?”

Lulu eyed him warily. “Who were they?”

He turned it over in his mind for a minute. “Old friends. We haven’t been in touch for a while.”

“That didn’t seem very friendly…”

He shrugged. “Things didn’t end well,” he replied, his tone letting her know that that was the end of the topic.

Later that night, after he’d put Lulu to bed and watched her fall asleep, Sehun continued to watch her, holding her close and gently stroking her cheek, loving the way she sought his touch even as she slumbered.

He hoped that tonight was an isolated incident and that there wouldn’t be any repeats.

He just had to wait for the job to be done. As soon as he dealt with the organization, he was going to take Lulu – kicking and screaming if need be – and get the hell out of Seoul. Or Korea for that matter. She would calm down eventually, once she adapted to their new environment. She’d done it before, she could do it again. And she would be comfortable this time, without money troubles, and she wouldn’t be alone. He’d already started selling off his shares in various businesses, had closed a couple of bank accounts. Everything would be fine once he cut ties with Kai and the rest for good. He just needed for that day to arrive and he’d be free. But until then, he hoped the universe would lend him a hand and keep his two lives separate.

He really should have known better.

The pounding on the door was a rude awakening.

Sehun opened his eyes, groaning as he rolled onto his back and glanced over at the alarm clock.

It was still early, early enough that he could catch a few more hours…

Knock, knock, knock.

…if some asshole wasn’t at his door trying to break it down.

He gently slid his arm from under Lulu’s warm body, thankful that she slept deeper these days. School and work were tiring her out and she needed as much sleep as she could get.

He grabbed his sweatpants from off the floor and stepped into them as he exited the bedroom. He paused at the front door to wipe a wary hand over his face, just as the idiot on the other side started knocking again.

“What?” he demanded as he threw it open.

“Well, good morning to you too, oppa,” Minah greeted cheerily.

Why did her eyes always remind him of a snake?, he wondered. It was her nature, certainly, but she envisaged it too.

“What do you want?” he asked tonelessly, deciding that he wasn’t going to react to her no matter what she did or said.

“Aww…Did Sehunnie roll out of the wrong side of bed? Want to go back and try it again? I’ll even come with you.”

Her tone was teasing but he could see that she meant it from the way her eyes hungrily moved over his bare upper body. Despite all that had happened between them, how much they despised each other, if he wanted her, she would come to him at the snap of a finger.

Sucks to be her, he thought.

“You have five seconds to get to the point before I close this door in your face,” he said flatly.

She pouted prettily. “Geesh, you’re no fun.”

When he continued to look at her emotionlessly, she shrugged.

“Okay, have it your way. There’s been a change of plans. The date’s been moved up. The boss wants to have a dry run ASAP.”

Now, genius,” she retorted.

“Now’s not a good time,” he began.

“Sehun-ah?” a soft, sleep-filled voice spoke from behind him.

Shit. Minah’s irritating screech must have woken her up.

He glanced behind him to see Lulu standing several feet away, near the wall. She’d pulled on his shirt from the night before, and nothing else. Thankfully, it was long enough that it reached halfway down her thighs, covering the essential parts of her body. She looked pure and fresh and perfect.

“Go back to bed,” he said gently. “I’ll be there soon.”

Lulu shot a questioning glance at Minah, who she could only partially see behind Sehun, but she nodded and went back the way she’d come.

“Well, well, well…” Minah drawled. “I’d heard that you had a little chicky but I had no idea you were robbing the schoolroom now, oppa. That’s pitiful, even for you. How old is she? Twelve? Then again…” Her eyes hardened. “You never could handle a real woman.”

The irony of Minah’s words were not lost on Sehun, he was just glad that she didn’t know why they were ironic.

He ignored her attacks. “As you can see, now is not a good time.”

“The boss doesn’t care what plans you have for your dick, he’s expecting you. You do not want to disappoint him. Just call the little bitch a cab and give her money to get back to whatever nursery you kidnapped her from.”

Sehun smiled slightly. “Your claws are showing.”

Sehun’s smile widened when said claws curled into fists at her side. Minah had always been a jealous brat. It made teasing her really fun. It also made her dangerous. She had a violent streak to match her temper and the last person he would want to be on the receiving end of that was Lulu.

Sighing dejectedly, he started to close the door, saying, “I’ll meet you there.”

Minah stopped him with a hard palm on the door. “I’m to drive you there personally.”

Sehun’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t need a babysitter.”

“And I don’t need your shit. Now…”

Sehun closed his eyes and took a deep breath before turning around.

Lulu was completely dressed now, with her bag slung over her shoulder, walking towards him.

“I’ve got to get home and change before class,” she explained.

That wasn’t exactly true. She had clothes at Sehun’s place and he would’ve driven her to school himself if not for the monster at his door. Clearly she had heard more than she should have, or Minah’s presence made her uncomfortable, and she was leaving to let him sort it out by himself.

Instinct made him want to stop her but common sense told him to let her go. Dealing with Minah would be a lot easier with lulu out of the equation.

“Okay,” he finally said.

She stopped next to him, leaned in and kissed him softly. He deepened the kiss briefly, partly because he couldn’t help himself and partly to put on a show for Minah’s benefit.

Lulu was the one who ended it. “I’ll see you later.” She glanced at Minah as she passed but didn’t say anything and didn’t look back.

He was so proud of her. He knew that had the positions been reversed, Minah would have disfigured Lulu without the slightest provocation. And that was what made Lulu a lady, even if her physiology didn’t match.

“Well, she certainly is a pretty little thing, isn’t she?” Minah said tightly.

Sehun could imagine how much it cost her to admit it and the thought made him smile.

“I’ll be right back,” he promised, and slammed the door in her unsuspecting face.

It came full circle a few days later when Lulu announced that she had a gig at The Dragon’s Den.

Sehun really didn’t want her to go but there was no way for him to stop her without coming clean as to his reasons why. All of them.

After the Minah incident, he’d expected Lulu to be full of questions or accusations but there’d been none. He’d spent all day working out a believable explanation and had settled for the old “ex who can’t let go” excuse but it had all been for naught. It was like it never happened. He’d still been wary for a couple of days after, waiting for her to suddenly spring it on him but she never did.

Now, as he watched her get ready to leave home, he decided that he had to try to stop her.

“Are you sure it’s a good idea? I mean…it’s all the way across town.”

Lulu glanced at him in confusion. “You’ll be there.”

No, I won’t.

“And you have class in the morning. Don’t you have exams coming up? This gig is already starting so late, you’ll be exhausted tomorrow.” School, yes, the perfect excuse. She was very strict when it came to her schooling.

Lulu rolled her eyes. “Tomorrow is Sunday.”

He cleared his throat. “Is it? Well…”

Sighing exasperatedly, Lulu stopped trying to apply her lip gloss and turned on Sehun. “Just come out with it. Why don’t you want me to go to this club?”

“It’s not that. I…”

“No, it is. The last time too. You didn’t want us seen together there.” She frowned. “What’s going on, Sehun-ah?”

Sehun rubbed the back of his neck. He felt extremely stressed at the moment. He was tempted to tell Lulu the truth but he wanted to do so when they had time to sit and talk it through, not when she was on the way out the door.

“I just…I don’t want other men looking at you.” It wasn’t exactly a lie, though not the truth in this instance but it could work. “I get so jealous when I see you touching them. It’s not like in the lounge when you’re on stage and unattainable.”

Lulu laughed softly, walking over and draping her arms around his neck. “You’re so silly… It’s just work. It means absolutely nothing to me. And, to be honest, the last time, once I saw you, I completely forgot that anyone else was there. If it makes you feel better, I won’t touch anyone, okay? I have to walk around, there’s nothing I can do about that, but I’ll keep my hands to myself.”

Sehun buried his face in her neck, taking a deep draw of her sweet scent. His hands, as they tended to, drifted down to her butt and cupped her cheeks, molding her against his hardness.

“You could just stay home with me,” he whispered sexily. “I could feed you in bed…or eat off of you. Or just eat you.”

Lulu laughed again. “Seh… If we had more time, I might be inclined to indulge you in a quickie but I’m going to have to rush as it is.” She drew his face up and gave him a big, loud kiss. “Let’s go.”

He might have lost the battle but the war was still up for grabs.
